Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
Main purpose of job:
To provide maternity cover for the FCO communications officer at the British Embassy Kinshasa. To lead on communications for the FCO at the embassy, working in close co-ordination with the DFID communications officer, during the two month period.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
Key responsibilities will include:
- Working closely with the DFID Communications Officer to manage the UK embassy website to ensure that it fully reflects the work of all Government Departments within the Embassy, reporting regularly on UK activity in and positions on DRC, and reaching as wide an audience as possible.
- Updating social media accounts on a regular basis, forward planning activity jointly with DFID on a weekly basis to ensure that key UK messages reach target audiences in an effective and timely way.
- Proactively planning to ensure positive press coverage for Embassy events and other activities in DRC.
- Supporting the Ambassador and Deputy Head of Mission’s engagement on social media, helping them increase their number of twitter followers and to target their outreach on social media as effectively as possible. Monitoring wider social media activity in DRC to support political work on elections.
- Providing communications support to events organised by the embassy. Ensure that the communications potential of these events is maximised to reach as wide as possible a DRC and UK audience.
- Acting as contact point for the Anglo-Congolese Network, increasing its membership online and offline and ensuring that the embassy's contact base grows.
Providing ad hoc support to the team on other communications needs. Contributing to the corporate objectives of the team and wider embassy.
Essential qualifications and experience
Essential on arrival:
- Fluency in English and French
- Experience of communications in a public context
- Experience in using social and digital media.
Desirable qualifications and experience
Desirable: Previous communications experience in a public context.
