Background :

SoCha, LLC is contracted to provide technical and advisory services to the United States Agency for International Development in the Democratic Republic of Congo (USAID/DRC) on the 5-year Mission Strategic Support Program (MSSP). The purpose of MSSP is to provide the USAID Mission with strategy and activity-level performance monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) support in the form of deliverables under its seven contractual objectives.  The Collaboration, Learning and Adapting (CLA) objective entails organizing and facilitating events and workshops to support adaptive management by the Mission, capacity building and other forms of collaboration and information sharing. 

An important task for the successful delivery of the CLA events is the reporting from the event.  The reporting is drawn from the event’s notes, transcriptions, facilitation tools and other related sources and is destined for review and approval by the client.  The majority of the documents and transcriptions are highly technical in nature and require good comprehension and analysis for the report writing phase of the deliverable.  Some of the original workshop material is generated in French and may require professional level translation.  All of the reports to be submitted to the client for approval require the highest standard of quality and presentation meeting USAID branding requirements as well.

Purpose of the assignment :

To help inform the Mission’s Collaboration, Learning and Adapting and maximize quality deliverables, the Reporting Officer will:

  • Produce high-quality reports of Mission learning activities through comprehensive notetaking and synthesis of key take-aways and action plans. 
  • Design and edit reports using available editing and infographics software. 
  • Assume final consolidation, editing and formatting of MSSP reports. 
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by the CLA Advisor, the DCOP and/or the COP, based on emergency priorities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure comprehensive (written and oral) notetaking of MSSP CLA events in English or French. 
  • As needed provide video support.
  • As needed translate notes and event-related documents from French-English and English- French.
  • As needed transcribe verbal presentations and event recordings.  
  • Produce high-quality reports providing synthesis of key take-aways and action plans. 
  • Edit and format the overall layout ensuring stylistic consistency; using software tools and enhancements for editing, graphics and data visualization and a report structure that conforms to SoCHA and USAID standards.
  • Provide options for the cover page, content and annexes.
  • Assume final consolidation, editing and formatting of CLA event reports and their deliverables. 
  • Remain available to address comments from USAID on submission.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by the CLA Advisor, the DCOP and/or the COP, based on emergency priorities.
  • Respect deadlines and maintain confidentiality of all information provided.  

Deliverables:

  • Reports and related documents and annexes finalized in PDF or other electronic format including Table of Contents, Executive Summary, Content, Tables, photo captions and annexes, etc. meeting MSSP and USAID final approval.
  • All final deliverables are provided in electronic form.
  • Approximate number of deliverables per month: 6-8

Qualifications:

  • University degree and/or higher education in journalism, communications, economics, law or project management. A degree in an international development related field is desirable. 
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience as journalist, reporter, writer, analyst, editor or publisher.
  • Proven experience in data analysis, report writing, infographics, data visualization and digital design.
  • Expertise in the use of editing and infographics software and preferably a.i. software.
  • Experience in producing products for international audiences – especially reports in English and French.
  • Fluency in both French and English, written and oral, is required.
