1. CONTEXT
SODEICO Sarl, a company specializing in the recruitment and provision of qualified personnel, is recruiting on behalf of one of their clients for a Program funded by USAID/BHA (United States Agency for International Development/Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance) a Capacity Building and Governance Advisor.  The client is a global humanitarian organization that works with people in poverty and distress to create justice and positive change through empowering partnerships and responsible actions. For this position Based in Kasai, DRC; the client seeks passionate, engaged and experienced candidate who embodies values of connectedness, courage and compassion.

2. ORGANIZATIONAL POSITION
 TheCapacity Building and Governance Advisor will be under the supervision of the COP.

3. DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES
The Capacity Building and Governance Advisor will oversee and participate in the following duties:
a. Capacity Building :

    • Collaborate with community leaders and local structures to assess their capacity-building needs;
    • Develop and deliver training programs, workshops, and mentoring initiatives to enhance their skills and knowledge;
    • Provide guidance and support to community leaders in implementing effective governance practices;

b. Local Structure Strengthening :

    • Work closely with local structures, such as community-based organizations and committees, to enhance their effectiveness and efficiency;
    • Facilitate the establishment and strengthening of local governance mechanisms;
    • Support the development and implementation of governance policies and procedures;

c. Crosscutting Benefit :

    • Ensure that capacity-building efforts are integrated across all program interventions;
    • Collaborate with Purpose One and Two Leads to align capacity-building strategies with the overall program objectives;
    • Identify opportunities for synergy and collaboration between capacity building and other program components;

d. Good Governance Promotion :

    • Promote and advocate for good governance principles and practices within the program;
    • Provide technical assistance and guidance to program beneficiaries on governance-related matters;
    • Support the development and implementation of systems to monitor and evaluate governance practices;

4. BASIC SKILLS

  • Capacity Building: Demonstrated ability to design and implement effective capacity-building programs for community leaders and local structures;
  • Governance Knowledge: Strong understanding of governance principles, policies, and practices, with the ability to promote good governance within the organization and among program beneficiaries;
  • Training and Facilitation: Proficiency in designing and delivering training sessions, workshops, and mentoring programs to enhance skills and knowledge;
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including community leaders, local authorities, and other relevant organizations;
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to various audiences;
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify challenges and develop innovative solutions in capacity building and governance initiatives;
  • Project Management: Experience in managing projects, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, to ensure timely and successful outcomes;
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to work effectively in multicultural and diverse environments, respecting and valuing local customs, traditions, and perspectives;
  • Networking and Partnerships: Proven ability to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including NGOs, government agencies, and community-based organizations;
  • Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to work in dynamic and changing contexts, adjusting strategies and approaches as needed to achieve program goals.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment;

5. QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • University degree in economics, international development, public administration, agriculture and food security, social sciences, international development or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of general experience of working within international organization
  • Minimum of 3 years of specific experience as Capacity Building and Governance Advisor or similar position in NGO or International Development organization.
  • Computer Proficiency: Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Familiarity with project management software and tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Asana, Trello) to effectively plan, track, and manage project activities, timelines, and resources.

6. LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

  • Must be fluent in French, both oral and written;
  • Intermediate Level of English is required;
  • Mastering of the local language will be an asset

7. COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Detailed understanding of the full Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams…);
  • Vision conference app or online tools meeting.
